Where is the wild place beyond gender? An academic couple and a high school student share how they have explored their own genders in the context of queer sexuality. It is a wild process.
“I prefer not to be feminine but the thing is that I’m pretty much always read as feminine anyway.” Sarah Kessler is a Ph.D. candidate in Comparative Literature at the University of California, Irvine, where she is writing a dissertation on ventriloquism.
“Coming to our gender is like being lost in various wildernesses.” Karen Tongson is an English and Gender Studies professor at the University of Southern California and the author of Relocations: Queer Suburban Imaginaries.
“I think a society without a lot of labels would be completely open, accepting, abundant, happy and loving.” Miles French, in conversation with Nina Tran. They both recently graduated from Garfield High School in Seattle.
